"Memories of Venice" is a very special piece for me, inspired by my 2015 European holiday with my family where Venice was our first stop to the beginning of a five-week adventure, and this city left such a lasting impression for us all. In this painting, I’ve tried to capture that dreamy, almost surreal feeling of being there with the gondolas floating on the water as the sun sets. A beautiful warm glow cast over everything.
I used soft brushstrokes and warm colours to capture this hazy, romantic vibe. The way the light dances on the water at dusk, the gondolas bobbing on the canal. It’s all so peaceful and beautiful. The textural strokes emphasise that this is a memory, but a memory that still holds so much emotion. That’s what I wanted to bring out in this piece, that blend of tranquility and nostalgia.
