Amethyst Sky is a 60 x 90cm original acrylic painting built from layers of colour, texture and movement.
I started with a dark base, then gradually worked brighter blues, turquoise, violet and soft pinks over the top, allowing parts of those deeper layers to keep showing through. I love the way this process creates a sense of depth, almost like light slowly finding its way through a stormy sky.
There’s something calming about this piece for me. It doesn’t represent a particular place, but it has that familiar feeling of looking out across water as the sky changes and the last light catches the clouds. A reminder that even when things feel a little dark or uncertain, there’s always colour, beauty and light to be found if we take the time to notice it.
Created intuitively with brush and palette knife, Amethyst Sky is full of subtle marks and texture that reveal themselves the longer you look.
