Collection: Alone

Sometimes I start painting without really knowing where the idea came from.

Alone was created from my mind’s eye. Maybe it came from a photo I’d seen, memories of my time in Whistler, a scene from a movie, or some combination of all three. I honestly couldn’t tell you. I just had this feeling I wanted to explore on canvas.

The painting went through plenty of changes along the way. Layers were added, covered up and reworked until eventually it reached that point where it simply felt finished. Knowing when to stop can sometimes be the hardest part.

At the centre of the piece, a lone moose stands quietly in the snow, surrounded by trees that gradually disappear into the distance. The cool blues give the landscape that crisp, almost icy feeling of winter, while a soft glow in the distance brings just a touch of warmth and hope.

I love the sense of solitude in this piece. It feels peaceful rather than lonely. There’s something about standing alone in a vast landscape that puts everything into perspective.

For me, Alone is about stillness, resilience and finding a little light even in the coldest places.
